FRAP

This animation depicts FRAP. Green Fluorescing Protein (GFP) are linked to membrane proteins and then a small patch of them are bombarded by a high intensity laser. This bleaches the GFP creating a dark spot. Scientists can then measure the number of unbound membrane proteins based on the amount of light recovered in the bleached area.

This animation was created in 3D Studio Max. Each scene was created separately and then composed in After Effects. The Sub Surface Scatter (SSS) and Glow Worm materials in the Brazil Rio render engine were used to create the majority of the glowing elements.
